Background

Incident Details On May 13, 1962 at 4:20 a.m., three truck drivers—Valentino Tomassini, Guro Tomassini, and Humberto Zenobi—were traveling from Bahía Blanca to Jacinto Aráuz in La Pampa, Argentina, when they observed a lantern-like light in a nearby field. The light alternated between bright and dim states.

Object Behavior As the vehicle slowed, a row of 20–30 lights activated on the object. When the witnesses approached within 210 feet, the object ascended and crossed the road at approximately 12 feet altitude. The lights extinguished, a reddish flame emerged from the bottom, and a soft humming sound was audible. The object then separated into two distinct sections that departed in opposite directions.

Physical Evidence At the landing site, grass was burned across an area 180 feet in diameter, with damp gray-colored patches present. Navy Captain Luis Sanchez Moreno, chief of intelligence at Port Belgrano Naval Base, conducted witness interviews. Samples were collected and analyzed, revealing calcium carbonate and potassium carbonate composition.
