Background

Incident Overview On November 30, 1973, at approximately 7:00 p.m., a structured object was observed near Caselle Airport in Turin, Italy, by multiple independent witnesses including commercial pilots and military personnel.

Primary Witness Account Pilot Riccardo Marano, operating a Piper Navajo approaching the runway, was alerted by air traffic control to an unidentified object positioned approximately 1,320 feet above the runway. Marano observed a luminous sphere displaying color transitions from violet through blue to dark red. Upon closer approach, the object executed rapid, irregular flight patterns including lateral deviations and sudden directional changes inconsistent with conventional aircraft behavior. Marano estimated the object's velocity at approximately 540 mph.

Corroborating Witnesses Colonel Rustichelli, commandant of the Caselle military airfield, independently detected the object on ground radar, describing it as solid and illuminated. Commander Tranquillo, piloting an Alitalia DC-9 en route to Rome, reported observing an intermittent flashing light source four miles distant and declined to approach. Commander Mezzalami, operating a second Alitalia DC-9, confirmed visual observation during landing approach, characterizing the phenomenon as highly anomalous.

Significance This incident represents a significant multiple-witness, multi-platform observation combining visual reports from three aircraft with independent ground radar confirmation, establishing strong corroboration for the event's physical reality.
