Spielberg's 'Close Encounters' - Hynek as onscreen advisor
Background
Steven Spielberg releases 'Close Encounters of the Third Kind.' Both title and in-film classification come directly from Hynek; he is scientific advisor and has a brief onscreen cameo. The film grosses 300 million dollars and makes Hynek's terminology globally known. The former Air Force debunker has - involuntarily - become the public voice of serious UFO research.
