Lake Erie / Eastland Coast Guard UFO: Mother Ship with Triangles Near Nuclear Plant
On the evening of March 4, 1988, near Eastland, Ohio, Sheila and Henry Baker and their children observe a huge, gun-metal grey, silent object hovering over Lake Erie, 'larger than a football held at arm's length,' causing lake ice to rumble and crack. Five or six bright yellow triangular lights detach from the main object, darting and zig-zagging at high speed, making right-angle turns, and making passes toward the nearby Perry Nuclear Plant. U.S. Coast Guard Seaman James Powers and Petty Officer John Knaub respond and observe the triangles, radioing Detroit base: 'Be advised the object appears to be landing on the lake... these smaller objects are going at high rates of speed. There are no engine noises and they are very, very low. Be advised these are not planets.' The Coast Guard creates an Incident Report on March 5 stating a large object landed a quarter mile east of the nuclear plant and dispersed 3-5 smaller flying objects. Tim Keck photographs a triangular object. The Army and NASA instruct the Coast Guard not to investigate further β the matter is 'out of their league and out of their hands,' with information forwarded to Wright-Patterson AFB. The Coast Guard debunks the sighting as 'Venus and Jupiter.'
