Brasilia: Oval UFO with Color-Changing Lights Over Prison

Sighting Details On the evening of April 11, 1991, between 7:00 and 9:00 p.m., a bright, oval-shaped object appeared over the Complexo Penitenciário da Papuda in São Sebastião, Federal District of Brasilia, Brazil. The object exhibited distinctive color changes, appearing blue when vertical and shifting to red when changing position.

Witnesses Lieutenant Damasceno of the Independent Company of the Military Police was the first to observe the phenomenon. Despite initial skepticism from colleagues, he persuaded them to witness the event. Over 20 police officers on duty that night observed the object, along with dozens of residents from the Lago Sul area. The sighting attracted significant public attention, with numerous vehicles converging on the prison location.

Physical Characteristics The object appeared to hover approximately 1,650 feet above the prison, exhibiting vertical and horizontal movements without leaving visible traces. Its lights and colors varied in intensity throughout the observation period.

Radar Confirmation Sergeant Petronius, a CINDACTA flight controller, tracked the object on radar after being informed by Damasceno. Radar data indicated the object appeared rectangular in shape and traveled at approximately 435 mph. CINDACTA confirmed tracking the object across much of the Lago Sul area and near Brasilia airport.

Conclusion After approximately 100 minutes of observation, a strange haze began obscuring the object, which disappeared roughly 20 minutes later. Authorities subsequently identified the object as a meteorological balloon, an explanation deemed inadequate by witnesses.
