Background

A series of mass UFO sightings over the city of Arica, northern Chile, in March and April 1997. The sightings were widely witnessed and reported, prompting the Chilean DGAC to issue its first-ever public statement acknowledging the UFO phenomenon. These sightings directly triggered the founding of CEFAA in October 1997.
