Background

During January 2015, a U.S. Navy F/A-18F Super Hornet operating near Florida utilized Forward Looking Infrared equipment to record aerial phenomena. The resulting footage showed a small object apparently traveling rapidly above ocean waves. This material remained classified for years before partial disclosure occurred. In 2020, the Department of Defense officially published the video alongside two other recordings, catalyzing widespread public interest and legislative action regarding unidentified aerial phenomena.
