Background

On August 7, 2019, the Central Intelligence Agency released the fully unredacted version of the January 9, 1958 memorandum. The declassification resulted from a Mandatory Declassification Review request filed by The Black Vault on January 24, 2019. The newly revealed portions confirmed that Dr. Davidson was never informed that his correspondents were CIA agents during his 1958 inquiry about a space message transmitter. This release clarified decades of speculation about the nature of early government-civilian interactions regarding UFOs.
