Background
On January 7, 2021, The Black Vault published the complete collection of CIA UFO documents transferred via CD-ROM. The archive encompasses 716 files representing records dating back to 1976 and beyond. Publication required extensive legal efforts beginning in 1996 to compel disclosure beyond the initial 1,000 pages released during 1980s court proceedings. The release includes converted searchable formats of original TIFF files, enabling researchers to examine intelligence community documentation previously withheld from public scrutiny. This disclosure represents one of the most significant releases of official government UFO records in recent history.
