Background
The National Reconnaissance Office (NRO) released seventeen documents responsive to a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request submitted by The Black Vault in 2021. The records consist primarily of email communications between the NRO and the UAP Task Force (UAPTF), which was established by the Department of Defense in August 2020 to analyze unidentified aerial phenomena. The release occurred on February 29, 2024, and included sixteen partially redacted documents and one fully withheld record.
