Background
In mid-December 2024, the FAA released the complete collection of air traffic control audio recordings and radar tracking information pertaining to the February 2021 encounter. The dataset included recordings from multiple frequencies used by Albuquerque Center, Apache, and Freeway sectors, spanning the timeframe of the incident. Additionally, radar data files provided technical tracking information about the unidentified object and the commercial aircraft. This release followed years of FOIA processing and appeals by The Black Vault, finally providing researchers with the primary source materials necessary to analyze the encounter's technical aspects.
