The 1129th USAF Special Activities Squadron was a United States Air Force unit established around 1961 at Groom Lake (Area 51), Nevada, to support the top-secret CIA Oxcart program involving A-12 reconnaissance aircraft. As a government military squadron, it operated F-101 Voodoo chase planes, T-33 trainers, and C-130s for proficiency flights, security intercepts of unauthorized aircraft in restricted airspace, and logistical support. Detachment 1, nicknamed 'Roadrunners,' aided CIA pilots and contributed to Black Shield operations at Kadena AB, Japan. Notable achievements include the Air Force Outstanding Unit Citation awarded on June 26, 1968. The squadron was deactivated in January 1969 after A-12 operations transitioned to the SR-71. It currently has no active status.
