ABC News
ABC News is the news division of the American Broadcasting Company (ABC), a major US television network owned by The Walt Disney Company. Founded in 1945 (as the news arm of ABC Radio), it is one of the 'Big Three' US broadcast-network news operations alongside NBC News and CBS News. Flagship programmes include World News Tonight, Nightline, and 20/20.
UAP Coverage History
ABC News has provided significant UAP-related coverage over the decades. Notable reporting includes the Peter Jennings-hosted 2005 prime-time special Seeing Is Believing, which examined the modern UFO phenomenon with input from researchers and government figures; coverage of the 2004 Nimitz Tic-Tac encounter; and the 2023 David Grusch congressional testimony. ABC News also covered the post-Soviet release of the so-called KGB UFO Blue Folder and Cosmonaut Pavel Popovich's requests for related files.
Significance
ABC's coverage has often shaped mainstream US public perception of UAP reporting. Its editorial standards — particularly under legacy anchors Peter Jennings and Diane Sawyer — brought an unusual degree of legitimacy to segments that might otherwise have been dismissed by major networks, and its archive is regularly cited by UAP researchers analysing US media framing of the topic.
