The Air Materiel Command (AMC) was a United States government military organization established on March 9, 1946, as a major command of the Army Air Forces, headquartered at Wright Field, Ohio. It succeeded earlier entities like the Materiel Division (1926) and handled key activities including research and development, procurement, supply, maintenance, and logistics for Air Force materiel. During its tenure until redesignation as Air Force Logistics Command on April 1, 1961, AMC managed post-WWII supply systems independent from the Army and oversaw critical hardware sustainment amid Cold War demands. Notable achievements include consolidating R&D and logistics functions post-war. AMC is inactive; its lineage continues in the active Air Force Materiel Command (AFMC), established 1992.
