BDM International was a US defence and intelligence contractor headquartered in McLean, Virginia. Founded in 1959 by Joseph Braddock, Bernard Dunn, and Dan McDonald, BDM provided systems-engineering, research, and analytical support to the Department of Defense, CIA, NSA, and other federal customers. In 1997, the firm was acquired by TRW Inc., which later merged into Northrop Grumman.

UAP-Related Role

BDM is named in UAP history through the Advanced Theoretical Physics (ATP) Group, a Pentagon UFO-study group that assembled in the 1980s. The ATP Group — documented in declassified records and discussed by researchers like Dr. Eric Davis and Col. John Alexander — included personnel from BDM, Los Alamos, Sandia, and other contractors, operating semi-informally to evaluate UAP-related physics and intelligence signals. Dr. Hal Puthoff collaborated with ATP Group members during the period.

Institutional Lineage

BDM's absorption into TRW and then Northrop Grumman means its former UAP-research personnel continued within major defence primes. This lineage is cited in modern disclosure discussions of the so-called 'legacy programme' whose existence David Grusch alleged in 2023.
