The Canadian Armed Forces (CAF) are the unified armed forces of Canada, comprising the Canadian Army, the Royal Canadian Navy, and the Royal Canadian Air Force. Headquartered in Ottawa under the Department of National Defence, the CAF plays a key role in NORAD (North American Aerospace Defense Command), which jointly monitors North American airspace with the United States.

UAP-Related Activity

Canadian military personnel have documented numerous UAP encounters over decades. Notable cases include the Newfoundland incident in which a Canadian Armed Forces pilot was paced by a green pulsating triangle; the 1967 Shag Harbour incident (one of the most-cited Canadian UAP cases); and the Cold War-era Project Magnet (1950-1954) โ€” a small Department of Transport UAP study led by Wilbert B. Smith. The Falconbridge, Ontario, NORAD radar tracking of a hundred-foot sphere for six hours is also part of the Canadian military record.

Disclosure Culture

Canada's Library and Archives contain a substantial declassified body of UFO reports. The CAF's integration with NORAD means Canadian UAP data is shared with US air-defence counterparts. In 2023, the Government of Canada's Sky Canada Project โ€” a Department of National Defence initiative โ€” began formal review of Canadian UAP reporting channels.
