The China UFO Research Organization (CURO) is one of several civilian Chinese UAP-research bodies established in the 1980s as part of a broader period of institutional openness to unidentified aerial phenomena research in the People's Republic of China. It has operated primarily as an academic and popular-science network, with members from universities, aviation industry, and astronomy institutions.

Activity

CURO has documented and investigated Chinese UAP cases including the Hunan Province sighting coinciding with a complete regional power blackout, Chinese Air Force bomber encounters at high altitude, and various civilian reports from across Chinese provinces. Its findings have been shared in Chinese-language publications and in international UAP research exchanges.

Significance

China's civilian UFO research culture โ€” represented by CURO and the separate Chinese UFO Research Association โ€” is a rare example of open engagement with UAP in an otherwise controlled state-media environment. Colonel Sun Shili, a former PLAAF officer, has publicly engaged with these organisations and with international UAP researchers. The organisation's records are an important under-utilised source for global comparative UAP analysis.
