The All-domain Anomaly Resolution Office (AARO) is a U.S. government office established by Congress in 2022 under the Department of Defense to investigate Unidentified Anomalous Phenomena (UAP) across air, sea, space, and transmedium domains. Its mission is to minimize technical and intelligence surprise by synchronizing scientific, intelligence, and operational efforts for detection, identification, attribution, and mitigation of UAP near national security areas. Key activities include developing sensors and protocols for UAP detection, advancing scientific understanding, analyzing reports, and collaborating with NASA and the intelligence community. Notable achievements: resolved hundreds of cases to commonplace objects like balloons, birds, drones; no evidence of extraterrestrial technology found. Divisions cover analysis, operations, science & technology, and communications. First director Sean M. Kirkpatrick served until December 2023. AARO remains active as of 2025, prioritizing partnerships, transparency, and expanded reporting.
