Fiat (Fabbrica Italiana Automobili Torino) was an Italian automobile manufacturer founded in 1899 in Turin, Italy. For much of the 20th century Fiat was Italy's largest industrial company, encompassing not only automotive production but also aerospace (Fiat Aviazione), defence, and shipbuilding. In 2014 Fiat merged with Chrysler to form Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCA), which in 2021 merged with Groupe PSA to form Stellantis.

UAP-Related Context

Fiat appears in the UAP record primarily through its former aviation arm, Fiat Aviazione, which became part of Aeritalia and later Alenia Aeronautica. Fiat aerospace personnel were involved in the 1954 Fortezza di San Pietro near-radar incident and other Italian industrial observations logged in the Italian Air Force UFO files. As a major supplier of radar and avionics systems, Fiat's technical archives occasionally surface in Italian declassification efforts on UAP technology assessments.

Current Standing

The Fiat brand continues as a Stellantis marque. The defence and aerospace lineage now sits within Leonardo S.p.A., which periodically publishes historical aerospace records of Italian national relevance.
