Gallup
Gallup, Inc. is an American analytics and advisory company founded in 1935 by George Gallup in Princeton, New Jersey. Best known for the Gallup Poll, it has conducted public opinion research continuously for nearly a century and is one of the most frequently cited polling organisations in the world. Gallup measures political, economic, social, and cultural attitudes across more than 160 countries.
UAP Opinion Polling
Gallup has conducted the longest-running series of US public opinion polls on UFOs and UAP, with surveys dating back to 1947 β shortly after the Kenneth Arnold sighting. Major findings include: a 1966 poll showing 48% of Americans believed UFOs were real; a 1990 poll at 47%; a 2019 poll in which 33% of Americans believed UFOs involved extraterrestrial visitation; and the 2021 follow-up showing increased belief following the DNI preliminary report. Gallup's UFO polling is frequently cited in academic and policy literature studying the social dimension of UAP.
Significance
Because of its methodological rigour and long time-series, Gallup's UFO polls provide the most authoritative public-opinion data on UAP beliefs in the United States. The data has been used by researchers, journalists, and policymakers including members of Congress as evidence of sustained public interest in the topic.
