Oregon MUFON
Oregon MUFON is a civilian chapter of the Mutual UFO Network (MUFON), the national organization founded in 1969 to catalog and investigate UFO reports. Based in Oregon, the chapter investigates between 100 and 150 reported sightings annually, employing a rigorous scientific protocol detailed in a 250-page investigator's manual. Investigations follow strict evidence collection procedures and categorize cases as explainable, insufficient data, information-only, hoaxes, or unknown. According to Oregon State Director Tom Bowden, approximately 40% of cases remain unexplained. The organization maintains high investigative standards, requiring investigators to complete training and pass an 80% examination before field work. Oregon MUFON also investigates related phenomena including cattle mutilations.
