The Fuerza Aerea del Peru (FAP) is the air force of Peru. In April 1980, Lt. Oscar Santa Maria Huertas was ordered to intercept an unidentified object over La Joya Air Base in a Sukhoi Su-22 fighter jet, firing 64 rounds of 30mm ammunition with no effect. Peru is one of the few countries with an official government body (OIFAA/DIFAA) dedicated to investigating anomalous aerial phenomena.
