Background

SOBEPS (Société Belge d'Étude des Phénomènes Spatiaux) was a Belgian UFO research organization that operated from 1971 to 2007. The organization established itself as a serious investigative body dedicated to studying unidentified aerial phenomena with scientific rigor and independence.

Belgian UFO Wave Involvement

SOBEPS gained international prominence during the Belgian UFO Wave (1989-1991), when it played a central coordinating role:
- Worked closely with the Belgian Air Force under General Wilfried De Brouwer to investigate mass sightings
- Coordinated reports and established procedures for dealing with close encounters
- Investigated triangular craft sightings reported by thousands of witnesses
- Published two definitive volumes documenting the wave
