Stanford Research Institute (SRI)
SRI International, originally the Stanford Research Institute (SRI), was founded in 1946 by Stanford University trustees in Menlo Park, California, USA, as a nonprofit research organization to drive innovation and economic development. Initially tied to the university, it became independent in 1970 and adopted its current name in 1977. Classified as a civilian nonprofit with academic roots, SRI conducts R&D for government agencies, businesses, and foundations in fields like AI, biotechnology, defense, and communications. Notable achievements include developing Siri, ARPANET contributions, handwriting recognition, over-the-horizon radar, and acquiring Sarnoff Corp (1987) and PARC (2023). In UAP/UFO context, SRI participated in government programs like the Stargate Project on remote viewing (1970s-1990s), investigating psychic phenomena for intelligence applications.
