Unidentified Aerial Phenomena Task Force
The Unidentified Aerial Phenomena Task Force (UAPTF) was a U.S. government program established on August 4, 2020, by Deputy Secretary of Defense David L. Norquist, led by the Department of the Navy under the Office of the Under Secretary of Defense for Intelligence and Security. Its mission was to detect, analyze, and catalog UAPs potentially threatening U.S. national security, standardizing collection and reporting of sightings. Key activities included improving understanding of UAP nature and origins, examining incursions into training ranges, and coordinating with military and intelligence communities. Notable achievements encompass the June 2021 Preliminary Assessment by ODNI and contributions to the 2022 Annual Report. The UAPTF operated until 2021-2022, succeeded by the All-domain Anomaly Resolution Office (AARO) established July 20, 2022.
