U.S. Army Combat Capabilities Development Command
The U.S. Army Combat Capabilities Development Command (DEVCOM), founded in 2019 as a successor to the U.S. Army Research, Development and Engineering Command (RDECOM), is a U.S. government military research and development organization. Headquartered at Aberdeen Proving Ground, Maryland, it operates as a major subordinate command under the U.S. Army Futures Command. DEVCOM employs over 13,700 personnel, including more than 10,000 engineers and scientists focused on Soldier-centric innovation. Key activities encompass fundamental scientific research, technology development, engineering, and analysis across eight competency areas, supporting Army modernization priorities like Long-Range Precision Fires, Next-Generation Combat Vehicles, Future Vertical Lift, Network, Air & Missile Defense, and Soldier Lethality. These include advancements in autonomy, AI, sensors, electro-optics, cyberspace operations, and machine learning. Notable achievements involve delivering capabilities for Multi-Domain Operations by 2028, such as Next Generation Squad Weapon, Integrated Visual Augmentation System, and autonomy architectures enhancing Soldier awareness and teaming. Currently active, DEVCOM accelerates R&D to ensure warfighter dominance through global collaboration with industry, academia, and allies.
