The Voronezh Geophysical Laboratory was a Soviet scientific institution that gained prominence during the 1989 Voronezh UFO incident. Led by Dr. Genrikh Silanov, the laboratory investigated alleged extraterrestrial sightings in Voronezh, Soviet Union, using controversial methods including biolocation (a form of dowsing) to identify landing sites and track alien movements. The laboratory's involvement in the incident, which occurred on September 27, 1989, and was reported by TASS on October 9, 1989, exemplified Soviet scientific engagement with UFO phenomena during the glasnost era. Despite claims of discovering anomalous rocks and magnetic activity, subsequent rigorous scientific analyses found no verifiable evidence supporting the alien landing hypothesis.
