Bernt Balchen (1899-1973), Norwegian-born polar aviator and U.S. Air Force colonel, was a pioneer in Arctic aviation and military operations. No direct involvement in UAP/UFO research or government UFO programs is documented in available sources. His career focused on polar exploration, WWII air base construction in Greenland (Bluie West 8), rescue missions saving downed airmen, and Cold War projects like the secret Thule Air Base (Operation Blue Jay, 1951) for Strategic Air Command deterrence. He commanded the 10th Rescue Squadron in Alaska (1948-1951), developing cold-weather search techniques, and advocated Project Iceman for IRBMs in Greenland. Post-retirement, he consulted on Arctic defense and energy. Key works include his 1958 autobiography 'Come North With Me.' As an Arctic expert, his innovations advanced military aviation but not UFO-related fields.
