Robert J. Gribble is an American UFO researcher who founded the National UFO Reporting Center (NUFORC) in late 1974. Beginning his UFO research in 1954, Gribble established one of the earliest UFO organizations, The Space Observers League in Seattle, before founding NUFORC to provide the public with a centralized means to report UFO sightings via phone and mail. During his twenty years leading NUFORC until his 1994 retirement, Gribble compiled an invaluable database from thousands of reports, with all calls recorded on reel-to-reel or audiocassette tapes including witness names, addresses, and detailed documentation. He also served as director of the National Commission on Aerial Phenomena (NICAP) and headed the APRG organization while publishing its newsletter.
