Brig. Gen. William A. Matheny
Brigadier General William Albert Matheny (1902-1973) was an American Air Force officer born in Carrington, North Dakota. A 1926 electrical engineering graduate of Marquette University, he joined the Army Air Corps in 1928, earning the prestigious William H. Cheney Award in 1929 for heroism after crashing in Nicaragua and rescuing his burning co-pilot. During World War II, he served with distinction in the Asiatic-Pacific theater, commanding the 13th Bomber Command Group and receiving decorations from Admiral Chester W. Nimitz, including the Distinguished Service Medal, Distinguished Flying Cross with oak leaf cluster, Legion of Merit, and Soldier's Medal. Post-war, he led air divisions in California, New Mexico, and Minnesota, and advised in Greece and Norway, retiring in 1962. No records link him to UAP/UFO research, military UFO programs, or related fields.
