Carlos Miguel Allende, also known as Carl M. Allen or Carl Meredith Allen (circa 1925-1994), was an American eccentric renowned for promoting the Philadelphia Experiment hoax in UFO lore. He claimed to have witnessed a 1943 U.S. Navy experiment rendering the USS Eldridge invisible and teleporting it from Philadelphia to Norfolk using Einstein's Unified Field Theory, observed from the SS Andrew Furuseth. In 1955-1956, Allende sent letters to UFO author Morris K. Jessup detailing the event and annotated copies of Jessup's 'The Case for the UFO' with notes on UFO propulsion, force fields, telepathy, and interstellar travel, later sent anonymously to the Office of Naval Research. His papers (1943-1994) include research on UFOs, interstellar travel, and related theories. Described as intelligent yet prone to fabrication, Allende later retracted and reaffirmed claims. He died in March 1994 at age 68.
