Clara John

Clara John (born circa 1887) was an American pioneer in UFO research, active in Washington, D.C. during the 1950s. A well-connected advocate with interests in spiritualism and the supernatural, she founded the Flying Saucer Discussion Group around 1956, which evolved into the National Investigations Committee on Aerial Phenomena (NICAP) under Donald Keyhoe by 1957. She published influential articles and hosted gatherings that shaped early ufology. Married to Dr. Walton Colcord John (1881-1942), a U.S. Bureau of Education professor, Clara contributed to UFO periodicals like Flying Saucers International and forged key connections in the field.
