Gary McKinnon

Gary McKinnon (born 1966) is a Scottish systems administrator who conducted his activities from a London apartment where he worked in that capacity. During 2001 and 2002, he hacked into 97 United States military and NASA computers while searching for evidence of UFO cover-ups and suppressed free energy technology. He claimed to have found references to non-terrestrial officers and fleet-to-fleet transfers in Navy records, as well as unretouched satellite images at NASA.

The United States sought his extradition on charges carrying penalties of up to 70 years in prison. After a decade-long legal battle that followed his arrest, British Home Secretary Theresa May blocked the extradition in 2012, citing his Asperger syndrome and associated mental health concerns.

The case became a landmark in both UFO lore and cyber law.
