George F. Gorman
George F. Gorman (1922-1982) served as a second lieutenant and pilot in the North Dakota Air National Guard, flying a P-51 Mustang during a cross-country flight with other National Guard pilots. On October 1, 1948, he engaged in a prolonged aerial pursuit of an unidentified luminous object over Fargo, North Dakota. During the encounter, Gorman chased a small, round, blinking light for approximately 27 minutes, reaching speeds over 400 mph and altitudes up to 14,000 feet. Multiple ground witnesses and a CAA controller confirmed the presence of the object. The incident, known as the Gorman Dogfight, became one of the earliest well-documented military UAP pursuit cases. It was investigated by Project Sign, occurred just months after the Mantell incident, and stands as a widely publicized UFO incident.
