Air Marshal Sir George Jones (1897–1992) was an Australian Royal Air Force officer and World War I ace who became a prominent figure in UFO research. Born in Australia, Jones achieved distinction as a fighter pilot, scoring multiple aerial victories including two kills in a single engagement at Tournai on 29 October 1918, for which he received the Distinguished Flying Cross. After the war, he held senior positions in the RAAF including Chief Flying Instructor and Director of Training. Jones developed a lifelong interest in unidentified flying objects after witnessing unexplained aerial phenomena at Warrnambool, Victoria in 1930, and reported another UFO sighting in October 1957. In the mid-1960s, he became patron of the Commonwealth Aerial Phenomena Investigation Organisation (CAPIO) and joined the Victorian UFO Research Society, viewing UFO phenomena through the lens of air defence implications. He published his autobiography 'From Private to Air Marshal' in 1988 and remained Australia's last surviving World War I ace until his death in Melbourne on 24 August 1992, aged 95.
