Gregory of Tours

Gregory of Tours (c. 538–594), a Frankish historian and Bishop of Tours, is noted in UAP research for his reported eyewitness account of a UFO-like phenomenon in A.D. 583. As a prominent chronicler of Merovingian history in his seminal work Historia Francorum, he described observing numerous globes of fire maneuvering erratically in the sky, an event cited in modern UFO literature as one of the earliest documented sightings by a credible historical figure. This testimony aligns with monastic records of aerial anomalies, predating later medieval reports.
