Harrison Schmitt
Harrison Schmitt (born July 3, 1935) is an American geologist, astronaut, and former U.S. Senator from New Mexico (1977-1983). He flew on Apollo 17 in 1972 as the Lunar Module Pilot, becoming the first scientist-astronaut and the 12th person to walk on the Moon. In UAP/UFO contexts, Schmitt joined a group led by Senator Harry Reid in the early 2000s advocating for government investigation of unidentified aerial phenomena, including potential crashed spacecraft recoveries. The group included astronaut Edgar Mitchell and aimed to address reputational risks openly. No specific publications or testimony from Schmitt on UAP are documented in available sources, though his involvement signals support for serious inquiry into military UFO programs.
