Harry Turner
Harry Turner was an Australian physicist and intelligence officer who played a pivotal role in early UAP investigations. Active at Maralinga nuclear test sites from 1956 to 1964, he personally probed UFO sightings, including a 1954 Woomera 'misty grey disc' at 60,000 feet and 1960 Wewak lights, concluding they were artificial phenomena. As head of the nuclear intelligence division in Australia's Joint Intelligence Office (JIO), under boss Bob Mathams, Turner authored a seminal 1971 report to R.W. Furlonger, citing USAF and CIA analyses that UFOs exhibited advanced flight traits implying extraterrestrial origins and propulsion studies. He advocated for an Australian UFO 'flying squad' against U.S. pressure, drawing on declassified files. Turner's lifelong persistence advanced serious UAP inquiry despite official resistance.
