José Teobaldo Viegas

José Teobaldo Viegas was a retired captain in the Brazilian Air Force. In January 1958, he participated in a scientific expedition to Trindade Island aboard the Brazilian Navy ship Almirante Saldanha during the International Geophysical Year. On January 16, around noon, Viegas spotted a Saturn-shaped UFO from the deck, described as a flattened sphere with an equatorial ring, metallic ash color, green vapor condensation, and undulating bat-like motion. He alerted photographer Almiro Barauna, who captured four photographs, corroborated by multiple officers and crew. Viegas assisted in developing the negatives in the ship's darkroom. The Brazilian Navy authenticated the photos after analysis.
