Julio Miguel Guerra
Julio Miguel Guerra is a Portuguese Air Force Lieutenant (later Captain) and flight instructor with the 101st Air Force Squadron, accumulating about 17,000 flight hours, who in 2009 earned an aeronautical science degree from Lusofona University of Oporto. On 2 November 1982, flying his DHC-1 Chipmunk near Ota air base, he observed a metallic disc that orbited his aircraft at high speed for 15 minutes and, during an interception attempt, stopped just 4.5 metres above him.
- Portuguese Air Force Lieutenant, later Captain
- Flight instructor with the 101st Air Force Squadron
- 17,000 flight hours over the course of his career
- 2009 aeronautical science degree from Lusofona University of Oporto
- Sighting on 2 November 1982 near Ota air base in a DHC-1 Chipmunk
- Metallic disc orbited the aircraft for 15 minutes at speeds between 480 and 2,500 km/h
- Disc stopped 4.5 metres above the aircraft during an interception attempt; two additional pilots confirmed the incident in independent reports
For the UAP timeline, Guerra is a highly credible Portuguese pilot key case: rank, flying hours, independent co-witnesses and a detailed first-person account for Leslie Kean's standard work make the Ota episode one of the best-documented European military pilot sightings.
