Robert Spencer Carr (died 2005) was an American science-fiction author and prominent UFO conspiracy theorist. He gained notoriety in 1974 by claiming that alien bodies from a 1948 flying saucer crash in Aztec, New Mexico, were stored in Hangar 18 at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base. Carr publicized these assertions during a live radio interview on October 11, 1974, alleging a surgical nurse witnessed an alien autopsy and citing Senator Barry Goldwater's denied access to restricted areas. His stories closely resembled his novel 'The Fortec Conspiracy,' prompting USAF denials of Hangar 18's existence. Carr's claims inspired the 1980 film 'Hangar 18' and fueled UFO lore, though lacking verifiable evidence. Note: Otis T. Carr (1904-1982) was a separate figure claiming to invent a Tesla-inspired flying saucer.
