Osmond J. Ritland
Col. Osmond J. \"Ozzie\" Ritland (1901-1974) was a U.S. Air Force officer pivotal in early reconnaissance and black project development. As Air Force liaison to CIA's AQUATONE program, he identified Groom Lake (Area 51) as the ideal site for U-2 testing in 1955, recalling its X-shaped airfield from nuclear tests. He served as Vice Commander of the Air Force Ballistic Missile Division (AFBMD), briefing on satellite recovery missions with Gen. Bernard Schriever. Involved in U-2 development alongside Richard Bissell and Kelly Johnson. Later, Maj. Gen. Ritland contributed to missile and space programs. No direct UAP/UFO research or testimony noted; his role tied to classified aviation explaining some sightings.
