Otto P. Weyland

Otto P. Weyland (1902-1979) was an American Air Force general who served as Commander of the Far East Air Forces (FEAF) during the Korean War era. A key figure in early UFO investigations, on February 22, 1952, he publicly addressed the Wonsan-Sunchon UFO incident involving B-29 bombers encountering orange glowing discs over Korea. Weyland confirmed an ongoing Air Force probe, stating, 'We can’t say there’s nothing to it, but unless we can get more data, I don’t think we can expect a conclusive answer.' He dismissed jet exhaust as the cause, noting one would need to view it 'right up the tail pipe.' The event, corroborated by multiple crews, fueled the 1952 UFO flap and media coverage in Time and Life magazines.
