Raymond Nyls
Raymond W. Nyls was a U.S. Air Force Major stationed at Selfridge Air Force Base near Detroit, Michigan, serving as operations officer and UFO investigator during the Cold War era. In the late 1950s or early 1960s, he conducted on-site investigations of UFO photographs, including recreating the camera position at Lake St. Clair, Michigan, to estimate the object's size based on measurements and assumptions, though results were inconclusive due to limited data. He also analyzed photos by brothers Grant and Dan Jaroslaw using a wood block on a swingset, which a lie detector test deemed a hoax. Nyls participated in Air Force UFO inquiries akin to Project Blue Book efforts. Post-retirement, he resided in Oregon with his family, including three children, and shared his experiences in an oral history interview. No known publications or formal testimony beyond declassified memos exist.
