Reginald Victor Jones

Reginald Victor Jones (1911-1997), British physicist and scientific intelligence expert, served as Director of Scientific Intelligence at the Air Ministry during World War II, pioneering radar countermeasures against German forces. Post-war, as Professor of Natural Philosophy at the University of Aberdeen, he developed a keen interest in unexplained aerial phenomena, investigating UFO reports skeptically through natural explanations. Key achievements include his seminal article 'The Natural Philosophy of Flying Saucers' published in Physics Bulletin in 1968, analyzing sightings as possible atmospheric or wave phenomena. He lectured extensively on the topic, delivered talks like manuscript notes from 1973, and corresponded on UFOs from 1955-1995, including with the Aberdeen UFO Research Group in 1970. Jones amassed extensive files on 'Flying Saucers,' blending scientific rigor with openness to anomalies while debunking pseudoscience.
