Selman E. Graves was an American businessman and private pilot whose primary role in UAP research stems from his eyewitness account of a recovered alien craft in Arizona's Paradise Valley in early October 1947. While on a hunting trip with friends, including ex-military man Walt Sayler, Graves observed what he later identified as a crashed saucer-like vehicle with an observatory dome, after the U.S. Air Force restricted the area. Years later, upon reading Frank Scully's 1950 book 'Behind the Flying Saucers,' Graves recognized the match and conducted his own investigations, meeting one of Scully's sources. In 1987, he provided a detailed testimony to UFO researcher Timothy Good, speculating that Sayler discovered the craft and alerted authorities, offering a fuller version of the incident and contributing to public awareness of early crash retrieval claims.
