Waveney Girvan
Waveney Girvan was a British author and publisher pivotal in launching UFO research in Great Britain during the early 1950s. He authored 'Flying Saucers and Common Sense' (1955, Frederick Muller Ltd., London; 1956 US edition, Citadel Press), a key early work summarizing the UFO controversy. Girvan advocated for the interplanetary origin of flying saucers, endorsing contactee claims like George Adamski's and Cedric Allingham's alleged Martian encounters, including saucer photos. He criticized government concealment of UFO truths and ridiculed conventional explanations, such as ice falls from aircraft. Though lacking scientific expertise, which led to credulity toward contactees, his book advanced ufology's public discourse. Girvan commented on UFOs in a 1959 radio interview. Birth and death years unknown.
