William H. Byrd

Admiral Richard E. Byrd (1888-1957) was a U.S. Navy officer and polar explorer who led multiple Antarctic expeditions, including Operation High Jump (1946-1947). While primarily known for his polar exploration achievements, Byrd became a subject of UFO folklore following claims that his diary contained accounts of encounters with advanced beings and unusual aerial phenomena during his Antarctic missions. These claims, however, lack verification in official records and remain disputed among researchers. Byrd's actual expeditions established permanent U.S. scientific presence in Antarctica.
