Wim van Utrecht

Wim van Utrecht is a Belgian skeptic and UFO investigator known for his critical analyses of UAP sightings. He has notably debunked aspects of the 1989-1990 Belgian UFO wave, publishing a detailed study highlighting weaknesses in the evidence, such as misidentifications with Venus and inconclusive photos, which was ignored by proponents like Major General Wilfried De Brouwer. In 2007, he co-founded the Belgian UFO reporting center (Ufomeldpunt) with Frederick Delaere, investigating hundreds of annual reports and attributing most to mundane causes like satellites, aircraft, weather phenomena, drones, or hoaxes. They co-authored the book 'UFO – Niet te geloven!: Wat we denken te zien en wat we echt zien,' published in March 2025, explaining UFO history and rational identifications while noting a small percentage of unexplained cases. Van Utrecht has also scrutinized specific evidence like the Petit-Rechain photo.
