Yuri Fomin

Yuri Aleksandrovitch Fomin was a prominent Soviet UFO researcher in the late 1950s and early 1960s. A member of the All-Union Society for the Propagation of Political and Scientific Knowledge, he and colleagues collected UFO reports, cataloged sightings, and delivered lectures on their findings to interested audiences. In January 1961, following harsh denunciations of UFOs as 'fantastic fairy tales' by Pravda and Vechernaya Moskva, Fomin was ousted from the society amid a Communist Party crackdown on ufology.
